E Waste recycling program for 2009

SWSWC and Quoddy Learning assisted Eastern Charlotte Waterways with the project.

Twenty one pallets of e-waste ready for shipment. Many of the monitors still working will be refurbished.

More than 200 monitors came from other sources such as educational institutions. The pie graph depicts just the domestic sources.

Some past Activity

In 2003 SWSWC in conjunction with District 10 school district in south west New Brunswick conducted a trial collection of old computers and associated hardware. Again at the end of January 2007 the collection program was repeated.

Total proceeds for 2003-compare this to 2007 below

Got an old monitor you want to “throw out?” Think about the following statement:

The outdated cathode ray tube (CRT) colour monitor contains one to two kilograms of lead  The new flat-screen Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitor is lead free, but unfortunately contains up to 50 grams of mercury, which causes chronic brain damage. The  polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic, which when burned, produces deadly dioxins and furans.
