Our Services - Education

The South West Solid Waste Commission has long viewed education as one of its most important activities. Early in its history the Commission, then know as Charlotte Region Waste Watchers, spent the majority of its effort on educating area residents about the differences between a modern sanitary landfill and the dumps which the area then hosted.

Through the years the educational effort went on with direct efforts like the Compost Demonstration Site, visits to schools, compost seminars and talks to service clubs and citizen groups. For several years the South West Solid Waste Commission produced newsletters, brochures and even a yearly calendar to "get the message out.”

Now that the Commission has entered an operational phase, the educational aspect has entered a transitional period. The South West Solid Waste Commission has and will continue to conduct tours of its landfill and recycling facilities.
